MPS™ Extended Range Methane Emissions Sensor

A low-power methane gas emissions detection sensor engineered for OEM integration into open-air monitoring devices — detecting CH4 plumes from 50 to 1,000,000 ppm with no field calibration required.

MPS Extended Range Methane Emissions Sensor for oil and gas methane leak detection

Why Operators Choose the MPS™ Extended Range Methane Emissions Sensor

Designed for Open-Air Methane Gas Emissions Detection

Optimized for detecting methane and natural gas plumes in open-air environments, the MPS™ Extended Range Methane Emissions Sensor measures CH4 concentrations from 50 to 1,000,000 ppm — a range that covers trace-level emissions detection through high-concentration plume events. In field testing, the sensor detected methane emitted at 2 standard cubic feet per hour (SCFH) at distances up to 10 meters, with near-zero false positives over weeks of continuous outdoor operation.

Factory calibrated for the sensor’s full operating lifetime — no field calibration required over 15+ years of operation. For OEMs building methane leak detection technology, eliminating calibration removes the single largest recurring field maintenance cost from device ownership.

Certified for Class I, Division 1 (FM, CSA) and Zone 0 (ATEX, IECEx).

The MPS™ Extended Range Methane Emissions Sensor is inherently poison-resistant, validated against 1,200 ppm-hours of H2S exposure — a critical requirement for oil and gas methane leak detection applications where hydrogen sulfide co-exposure is common. Also validated against siloxanes, NO2, HCN, SO2, Cl2, and NH3.

Purpose-built for battery-powered and solar-powered emissions monitoring devices operating in remote industrial locations. The 15 mW average power consumption enables continuous CH4 monitoring with a 4-second self-test cycle — extending deployment lifetimes significantly over conventional methane detection sensor technologies.

-40°C to 75°C with 0–100% relative humidity and 80–120 kPa pressure tolerance — engineered for continuous outdoor operation across oil and gas, mining, industrial, and landfill environments without performance degradation.

The sensor automatically performs dozens of built-in diagnostic tests every 4 seconds, continuously verifying system operation and alerting the host device to any sensor fault or status change — critical for unattended methane gas emissions detection deployments where manual inspection is impractical.

5-pin UART digital interface (3.3V logic, 38,400 baud) outputs sensor readings directly on a standard digital bus. No additional signal conditioning electronics required — simplifying OEM device design and reducing BOM cost.

Note: The MPS™ Extended Range  Methane Gas Sensor is not suited for safety applications or for detection of gradually accumulating concentrations (e.g. slow leaks into confined, poorly ventilated spaces).

NevadaNano FM Approval verifies NevadaNano gas sensors and IoT devices meet high standards of safety, quality, and performance
CSA certification generally refers to a mark indicating a product has been tested and meets specific safety or performance standards set by the CSA Group (formerly Canadian Standards Association) for Canada and the U.S.. It signifies compliance for electrical, mechanical, and industrial products,
IECEx approval indicates the equipment is certified to operate safely in explosive atmospheres (hazardous areas) according to International Electrotechnical Commission standards.
Ex-certified refers to equipment designed and tested to operate safely in hazardous, explosive atmospheres by preventing ignition sources. It signifies compliance with stringent standards—such as ATEX in Europe or IECEx internationally—for environments containing flammable gases, vapors, or dust.
