We are Canadian immigration lawyers in Toronto who believe your immigration application deserves dedicated, focused advocacy. Lev Abramovich

Partner

Lev is a founding partner of Abramovich Immigration Law and a highly skilled immigration lawyer. His practice focuses on corporate immigration, personal immigration, and resolving complex immigration issues.

Lev regularly advises businesses, including multi-national corporations, on navigating Canada’s immigration system, including Labour Market Impact Assessments, intra-company transfers, and compliance-related issues. His strategic approach emphasizes proactive planning and practical solutions, ensuring clients can meet their immigration needs efficiently and effectively.

While Lev has extensive experience representing clients in judicial reviews, appeals, and inadmissibility matters before the Federal Court and Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, his primary goal is to help clients avoid contentious situations. By identifying potential challenges early and crafting well-supported applications, he helps businesses and individuals achieve their immigration goals without unnecessary delays or complications.

Lev’s background as a litigator also informs his approach to corporate immigration, giving him a unique perspective on how adjudicators and decision-makers evaluate applications. This allows him to anticipate potential hurdles and build persuasive cases that stand up to scrutiny.

He regularly speaks to the media on immigration developments and has testified before the Senate on policy issues. As a former director of a Canadian technology recruitment firm, Lev offers corporate clients unique insights into recruiting and retaining international talent.

Lev is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association.

Lev obtained his LL.B at the University of Windsor, after obtaining a Bachelor of Philosophy from the same university. In addition to English, Lev is also fluent in Russian.

Sonja Pesko

Lawyer

Sonja’s practice is focused on personal and corporate immigration. Before joining Abramovich Immigration Law in April 2022, Sonja worked at a full-service Toronto law firm, where her practice focused on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general securities law. After more than three years of fast-paced and high-stakes corporate practice, she decided to pursue her passion for working with people. She uses the skills developed in a high-stakes and high-pressure environment to deliver exceptional results for the firm’s clients.

As an immigrant herself, Sonja deeply understands the unique challenges immigrants face when navigating the Canadian immigration system. These experiences have shaped her own practice and made her a compassionate and zealous advocate.

Sonja holds two law degrees, a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Civil Law, from McGill University. She completed her articles at a large international law firm, gaining litigation experience during her articles. Prior to law school, she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, followed by a Master’s Degree in Globalization. Sonja is a native speaker of English, Serbo-Croatian, and some French.

Sara Pesko

Lawyer

Sara’s practice focuses on immigration litigation, including inadmissibility and rejections, personal immigration, and refugee law matters.
 
Sara joined Abramovich Immigration Law after being called to the Ontario Bar in March 2024. Prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law, Sara completed litigation-intensive articles with the Ministry of the Attorney General, where she regularly appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Sara has also interned at the Hague Conference on Private International Law in The Hague, Netherlands, gaining valuable experience with international law.
 
During law school, Sara volunteered with the International Refugee Assistance Project, working with and advocating for refugees and displaced persons. 
 
Sara’s empathetic and persuasive advocacy is informed by her personal immigration experience. She immigrated to Canada with her family following the civil war in the former Yugoslavia.

Sara holds two law degrees from McGill University, a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Civil Law. Prior to law school, she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science from McMaster University.
In addition to English, Sara speaks Serbo-Croatian and some French.

Alexandra Shemen

Immigration Clerk

Alexandra has worked in the legal industry as a law clerk and licensed paralegal for several years prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law.

She supports lawyers throughout the application process for immigration matters. Alexandra has considerable experience with respect to personal immigration and immigration litigation.

Alexandra takes pride in her ability to assist clients in achieving success and is dedicated to helping them navigate the legal system with dignity and respect.

Alexandra earned her BA with Honours in Criminology, with a minor in Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. She completed her Paralegal Studies at Durham College where she graduated on the President’s Honour Roll. She is a Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Alona Kishchenko

Immigration Clerk

Alona is an immigration clerk at Abramovich Immigration Law. As a foreign-trained lawyer, Alona brings a broad legal perspective including her past corporate law experience to assist the firm’s individual and corporate clients.

Prior to joining Abramovich Immigration Law, Alona worked at a full-service immigration firm in Toronto, where she gained experience with respect to a broad range of personal and corporate immigration applications. Her international background and Canadian immigration law experience make her an asset to the firm and its clients.

Alona holds a master’s degree in civil law from the Donetsk Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
