FILM & TELEVISION DEVELOPMENT

Authentic African Narratives. Engineered for Global Distribution.

Blunt Pencil Storyworks is a writer-led story studio dedicated to elevating distinct African narratives. Through a rigorous, story-first development process, we incubate original film and television projects engineered to resonate locally and compete on the global screen.

Built to operate across the development pipeline, we partner with visionary screenwriters to refine original concepts, align projects with regional and international distribution standards, and package market-ready IP for domestic broadcasters and global streaming platforms.

WHAT WE DO

Three pillars. One mission.

The Studio

Professional script development for writers, producers, and streamers who understand that great stories require rigorous craft.

The Story Lab

The Story Lab — An 8-week training incubator for writers from underserved countries and communities. Independent program. Fellows own their work.

The Slate

The Slate — Original projects in script development, seeking co-production partners and strategic investors.

LEADERSHIP

Blunt Pencil Storyworks was founded by filmmaker and director Afe Olumowe, director of the AMVCA and Ghana Movie Awards-nominated features When Love Comes Around and Anniversary. Grounded in decades of hands-on dramatic craft, the studio was established to give African screenwriters a dedicated home for story development, providing the structure, script discipline, and creative freedom needed to bring original narratives from concept to screen.

ELEVATING THE ART OF AFRICAN SCREENWRITING

The stories we develop are built on narrative precision and cultural resonance. Blunt Pencil Storyworks bridges talent across Africa and the diaspora, providing the development infrastructure needed to take original concepts from first draft to market-ready script.
