Very often, people come to me struggling with anger—angry at what someone has done, disappointed by the political world, or disheartened by the actions of a company, institution, or community. I invite them to become quiet for a moment and ask: Do you know why you are so angry? It's because you care.
We live in unsteady times. There are the looming effects of climate change, huge AI transformations, increasing divisiveness and warfare, and the widespread mistreatment of many beings on this earth. At the same time there is the orange butterfly that flew 1000 miles to land in your garden, the majesty of the oceans, and the unstoppable turning of the trees in their seasons.
We live in a time when it is easy to become discouraged. We witness war and division, violence and fear, and sometimes it seems as though suffering has the final word. But the Dharma tells a different story. Again and again, it reminds us that this world is full of second chances. Redemption is always possible.
