Lights UP creates a warm, safe and inclusive space that stimulates and challenges all ages to perform, from beginners to the most experienced performers. We want to improve our students’ singing, acting, improvising, and dancing abilities. Our classes enhance and promote confidence and concentration, teamwork, and social interaction, and of course, there will always be room for fun, laughter, and making new friends!
We believe in building our students’ personal development through our carefully constructed lesson plans so they can grow both personally and professionally. This will help optimise each student’s potential in anything they put their mind to and build a strong character, giving rise to maturity, satisfaction, and success in all they do
We book classes based on the school term, which is 10 – 15 weeks. We keep classes small for two reasons: First, to ensure a safe place for our students to find their voice and feel comfortable in Improv and Scene work, and hence, help them build confidence and give them a chance to be themselves. And second, our teachers can provide each student with the support and attention they need. Parents will be informed about their children’s development and will be invited to see the final performance at the end of term.
Each class is around 90 minutes, our classes take place in space with full use of a lighting desk and audio system.
Everyone is welcome at Lights Up, Perform!
Our classes provide a unique chance to learn from the best in the industry. We bring in West End professionals for masterclass sessions and full-term courses, offering students an exceptional opportunity to gain insights from those currently shaping the field. This is a rare privilege that sets our program apart.
For friends who want to get the first taste of our course, they’re welcome to join us in the first week of the programme.

Our scene work subject covers the foundations of acting, as well as practice with scripts and staging. This subject is an introduction to the art of storytelling and allows students to explore their ability to work in any scene and environment.
They’ll practice and showcase portraying emotions and transforming into characters while experiencing a variety of acting exercises and genres that will help them perfect their scene work performance.
Students will practice:
Characterisation
Stagecraft
Breath control
Script memorising and sight-reading
Tone
Audition techniques
And more!
We cover all techniques for acting, such as Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Stanislavski techniques.
Improv is the best work for helping actors to build confidence, courage, and creativity and teaches us to trust our instincts. It helps us to stay out of our heads, listen and respond honestly. And then most of all… it is So Much Fun!
This subject entails drama-based and role-playing activities and exercises related to focus work, character dialogue, and vocal projection that boost their confidence, enhance their capacity to think quickly and creatively, foster innovation, and improve problem-solving abilities.
The Improv subject particularly helps students improve their attention and concentration, helps them develop their imagination, and teaches them to think smart and fast, speak clearly, and not be afraid to participate.
As we are working actors and singers in the musical theatre industry ourselves, it goes without saying that we love to sing! Each term, our class will work on a musical number to perform at the end of the term. We will always provide sheet music as we believe that becoming familiar with looking at the music notes on the page is a great skill to have. Reading music challenges our brains, and the better you can read music, the more understanding of the song you will have.
We challenge our students to learn harmonies and become more confident with the sound of their voices. Singing out and being heard is what we strive to help our students achieve. We like to bring in music that challenges the students but also gives them something to connect to. Our focus is to not only teach the notes but to bridge their acting skills with their vocal skills and give them the tools to perform and act through song. When the two things connect, magic happens!
Students will practice:
Vocal warm-ups
Breathing exercises
Tone and range
Harmony
Introduction to reading music
And more!
No need to be a professional dancer in our classes. We teach movement that enhances our performances, and with our dance training, we are able to choreograph moves to suit the level of each student. We don’t always realize how much we use our improv and acting skills through our movement, physicality, and words!
In Lights Up, we give the students an opportunity to express themselves physically and verbally, which can be challenging and very rewarding when it all comes together at the end of term.
In addition to all these benefits, let’s remember that dancing is exercise! Besides learning how to be confident and know how to express themselves, students will also have weekly time for exercising.
Helping students fall in love with dancing might inspire them to keep active or even try other sports that will enhance their overall health.
We are located at The Drama Studio at The Fulham Boys School. The address is 532 Fulham Road, London, SW6 5BD.

Do you want to find the light within you through singing, acting, improv, and movement? Lights up! will ignite the spark within you.
“This class is so much more than ‘performance and drama’. Yvette and Kristen have a gift for connecting with the kids and helping them find their voice, and perform like no one is watching”
" I love Lights Up! " Monday used to be my most boring day, but now I have something to look forward to. It is the best class ever. The teachers are always so supportive and have made me feel so much more confident. My favourite part is that we perform shows in front of parents and friends and in public. The bonus part is at the end of term; we have a Light up! Party! "
“My daughter absolutely loves attending lights up perform drama classes. Performing in front of people was a challenge for my daughter, but after few sessions she told me that she loves it and looks forward to going every week. Margaux has grown in her confidence, in creative expression, in social interaction, she is learning so much every week. She is so happy. Learning a script, improvisational techniques, singing, dancing…are challenging for the children and they really love it!
Thank you for your hard work…all your techniques to improve public confidence are very professional!”
Our daughter joined Lights Up from the very beginning, and it was an immediate hit. It is the highlight of her week. Her confidence and ability have grown hand over hand under the expert stewardship of Yvette and Kristen. They have managed to create a warm, safe and inclusive platform that stimulates and challenges children to perform, whatever their ability or experience. Whilst there is clear focus and discipline there is also ample space for fun and laughter. Parents are kept up-to-date on what’s happening and are regularly invited to come and see their children perform.
I just want to thank you so much for all the incredible work you do. I deeply believe there is no greater way for the children to learn how to express themselves, become more confident while having fun and creating memories that will stay with them forever. Is pure joy for me to see them acting, singing and dancing. Seeing them how children should be ! Happy and thoughtless. What you two do is simply amazing and I admire you for all the passion and love you put into it.
