Competitions provide registered students with a chance to compete against peers from across the globe. To best prepare, we recommend the following steps before the competition begins:
Get ready for the first competition of the 2025 season! At all Excel Esports Weekend Battles, registered MECC students will have 30 minutes to complete the case after downloading it from ExPrep. Access to the competition case will be available throughout the weekend, but students can participate only once. Both Junior Varsity (introductory level) and Varsity (advanced level) competitions will be available. The top 5 students in the Varsity level will receive an invitation to participate in the "Battle for Semi-Finals and Scholarships" on September 27. Additionally, one school team, determined by the top 3 individual student scores in the Varsity level, will secure a spot in the Team Semi-Finals 2025 in Las Vegas. MECC Regionals will be in-person events hosted in cooperation with partner universities at various locations. Precise details about the events will be published later. While the events may vary from one region to another, all will feature the same Excel Esports competitions. The top player from each regional event will be invited to participate in the Online Regional Winners' Battle, where the top 3 players will qualify directly for the MECC Semi-Finals in December in Las Vegas. MECC Teams Showdown will be part of the upcoming Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup (CECC) May Madness 2025 . This high-stakes competition will feature four elite teams: University of Arizona University of Kentucky University of Tennessee–Knoxville University of Technology Sydney They previously clashed in the MECC 2024 Team Finals in Las Vegas, where the University of Tennessee–Knoxville narrowly claimed victory in an intense battle. Now, they return to reignite their rivalry and demonstrate their Excel expertise on an even grander stage at CECC May Madness 2025—playing Excel Esports alongside top esports athletes competing in Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Valorant, Street Fighter 6, and Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate. The winners from each of the five MECC Regional events will come together to face off for a chance to secure a spot in the MECC Championships Individual Semi-Finals (December 1–3, 2025). This thrilling online showdown will determine who claims a guaranteed place in the prestigious December event and other exciting prizes. This battle will take place online alongside the MEWC Online Qualification Roundsand will be open only to invited students;
If you want to secure your invitation, remember there are three ways to do it:
1. Place in the top 5 in the Individual Varsity Level of any monthly Weekend Battle.
2. Earn the Case Explorer Badge.
3. Achieve the Excel Athlete Badge.
To accommodate participants from different time zones, invited students must fill out a form in advance and select one of the following time slots: Saturday, September 27, 2025, 7:00 UTC | Friday, September 26, 2025, 12:00 AM Pacific Time
Saturday, September 27, 2025, 16:00 UTC | Saturday, September 27, 2025, 9:00 AM Pacific Time Key Details: The competition case will differ between the two time slots.
Participants have a 30-minute time limit to complete the case.
This competition will use a platform different from ExPrep. Participants will receive access details via email, as provided in their registration form.
Only students eligible for the MECC Championships (e.g., at least 18 years old on the day travel begins and enrolled in degree-granting institutions) will be able to participate in this battle. They will need to confirm their eligibility on the participation form. Dual Participation:
Invited students wishing to qualify for The Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) must purchase a MEWC ticket. With the ticket, their results will count toward both MECC and MEWC competitions. Advancement and Awards: Semi-Finals Qualification:
The top 45 students based on points earned will advance to the MECC Championships Day 2 Semi-Finals (64-player round) in Las Vegas. These students will receive: Paid registration for the Active Cell Training Camp.
Shared accommodations for the event. The number of qualifiers from each game will be proportional to total participant numbers.
Scholarships for Travel:
The top 10 students will receive scholarships to cover travel expenses, reimbursed after the MECC Championships upon submission of travel receipts: Up to $850 for North American students.
Up to $1,850 for international students. Scholarships will also be distributed proportionally based on game participation numbers.

The MECC Championships will take place in December in Las Vegas, crowning the season’s Individual and Team Champions. This three-day event will feature:
Day 1: Last Chance Qualification Round
Day 2: Team and Individual Semi-Finals
Day 3: Team and Individual Finals
The MECC Championships will be part of a larger event, The Active Cell Training Camp, and will run alongside the Microsoft Excel World Championship.
