Need a Second Opinion? We’re Here to Help.
When you’re facing a serious neurological condition, having the right information can make all the difference. At NCH Wingard Stroke Center, our neurology specialists offer trusted second opinions to help you fully understand your diagnosis and explore all available treatment options. Getting a second opinion isn’t a sign of doubt. It’s a sign of being an informed, empowered patient.
A second opinion may be right for you if you have:
- Received a diagnosis for a serious or complex neurological condition
- Been told you may need surgery or an invasive procedure
- Questions about a recommended course of treatment
- Symptoms that seem to be changing, worsening, or not improving
In addition to emergency stroke treatment, NCH offers second opinions and specialized care for many non‑emergent neurological conditions, such as:
- Unruptured brain aneurysms
- Brain bleeds and other vascular conditions
- Neurological disorders affecting the brain and nervous system
- Persistent or complex headaches
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Our team takes the time to review your case thoroughly, including advanced imaging and diagnostic findings, so you can make informed decisions about your care. Whether you’re seeking reassurance or exploring alternatives, we’re here to provide the clarity you need.

MECHANICAL THROMBECTOMY – ONLY JOINT COMMISSION CERTIFIED COMPREHENSIVE FACILITY IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
Until recently, there has been only one proven therapy for ischemic stroke: clot-busting drugs called tPA. Thanks to groundbreaking research, another treatment is now available: mechanical thrombectomy.
The procedure itself, performed at NCH as the only Joint Commission certified comprehensive facility in Southwest Florida, is minimally invasive and studies have shown that patients who have a mechanical thrombectomy recover faster and have an improved quality of life compared to those patients using clot-busting tPAs alone.
At NCH, our neurointerventional surgeons are specially trained to perform many different stroke therapies, including mechanical thrombectomies.
Award-Winning Service
What It Means to Be a Comprehensive Stroke Center
NCH Wingard Stroke Center is certified by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC), the highest level of stroke certification available. This designation recognizes hospitals that meet the most rigorous standards for stroke care, safety, and outcomes.
As one of only a few Joint Commission designated Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Florida, and the only one in Southwest Florida, NCH provides advanced stroke care close to home.
Why This Certification Matters for Patients
Achieving Comprehensive Stroke Center certification reflects NCH’s commitment to continuously reviewing and improving every aspect of stroke care – from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and follow‑up.
This designation confirms that NCH offers:
- A standardized, evidence‑based approach to treating complex stroke cases
- A dedicated, specialized stroke unit
- Advanced imaging and treatment capabilities
- Neuro‑intensive care with 24/7 on‑site critical care coverage
Most importantly, NCH has the expertise and technology to perform mechanical thrombectomy, a minimally invasive procedure used to remove large blood clots from brain arteries, often improving outcomes for patients experiencing severe strokes and bringing peace of mind.
