WHAT WE OFFER

Personalized psychiatry for anxiety treatment

At Peak Mental Healthcare, we take the time to understand how anxiety affects your life, what you’ve tried before, and what’s most important to you. From that foundation, we build a treatment plan that fits you.

We pair personalized medication plans with timely appointments, straightforward billing, and a responsive team that’s here for you.

A psychiatric evaluation

We start with an in-depth, judgment-free conversation about your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and concerns. This gives us the insight to diagnose accurately and shape an anxiety medication regimen that supports both your needs and preferences.

Answers through anxiety testing

Anxiety can overlap with other mental health conditions, which is why we take the time to ask questions, listen carefully, and use proven testing tools. With that insight, we’ll tailor your treatment so it’s focused and rooted in what you need.

Thoughtful medication management

Anxiety medications can help regulate mood, reduce panic or worry, and improve sleep and focus. Your psychiatric provider will walk you through your options — including potential benefits, side effects, and timing — and help you decide what makes sense for you. Together, you’ll monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed.

Treating the whole you

For some, anxiety medications are enough. For others, brief psychotherapy can be a helpful supplement — especially when anxiety is tied to stress, perfectionism, or negative thought patterns. We may incorporate that into your appointments, or we’ll recommend trusted outside providers when more in-depth therapy is needed.

ANXIETY MEDICATION

What our psychiatric providers may prescribe

Anxiety medication isn’t one-size-fits-all. Based on your symptoms and medical history, your psychiatric provider in Denver or Phoenix may recommend one or some of the following prescriptions throughout the course of your anxiety treatment.

COMMONLY PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS FOR ANXIETY
SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Zoloft (sertraline), Lexapro (escitalopram), Prozac (fluoxetine) – Often the first line of treatment for generalized anxiety, social anxiety, or panic disorder.
SNRIs (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) like Effexor XR (venlafaxine), Cymbalta (duloxetine) – May be used when SSRIs aren’t effective, especially if physical symptoms like pain or fatigue are present.
Benzodiazepines like Ativan (lorazepam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Xanax (alprazolam) – Fast-acting relief for acute anxiety or panic attacks; typically used short-term and with care due to dependency risk.
Buspirone – Often prescribed for long-term management of generalized anxiety disorder; non-sedating and non-habit forming.
Beta blockers like Inderal (propranolol) – Sometimes used situationally for social or performance anxiety to reduce physical symptoms like shaking or rapid heart rate.

Your provider will help you weigh the pros and cons of each option and find a medication that works for your needs and life.

FAQs

Common questions about anxiety

It’s completely normal to have questions about anxiety, especially when it can feel like “just stress” or could be dismissed by others. We’re here to help you.

Anxiety isn’t always a bad thing in small doses. It’s your brain’s natural response to stress, helping you stay alert and handle what’s in front of you.

However, it becomes a concern when it lingers, escalates, or starts to shape your day-to-day life. If you’re avoiding situations, feeling physically unwell, or struggling to focus or sleep, consider those as signs to seek support.

Symptoms vary by type, but common physical and emotional signs include:

  • Nervousness, fear, or dread
  • Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
  • Difficulty concentrating or restlessness
  • Sweating, muscle tension, or aches
  • Upset stomach, nausea, or appetite changes
  • Headaches or fatigue
  • Panic attacks (e.g., shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness)

Four of the most common anxiety disorders include:

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
GAD is a persistent, overwhelming worry that’s hard to turn off. It often centers around common areas of life like work, health, or family, but the intensity of the worry can feel disproportionate. Over time, it can take a real toll on one’s energy, focus, and sense of calm.

Social anxiety disorder
It’s not just shyness. It’s a deep fear of being judged or embarrassed in social or performance situations. Whether it's speaking up in a meeting or attending a gathering, these moments can bring intense discomfort or panic to those who have this disorder.

In these cases, many who have social anxiety disorder may start avoiding social settings altogether, which can impact work, relationships, day-to-day life, and overall well-being.

Separation anxiety disorder
Though often associated with children, separation anxiety can affect adults, too. It shows up as intense worry about being apart from loved ones or fear that something bad might happen when you're not together.

Life changes, like a move, loss, or transition, can trigger or worsen these feelings. With the right treatment, these fears don’t have to control your life.

Specific phobias
Phobias involve strong, irrational fears of specific objects or situations, like flying, spiders, or needles.

These fears can cause real physical symptoms, including panic, and may lead those affected to avoid certain activities altogether. While they might seem small to others, phobias can have a big impact on one’s freedom and quality of life.

At Peak Mental Healthcare, our approach centers around psychiatry, so treatment with us can include:

  • Psychiatric evaluations, to help us understand your symptoms and develop a medication plan tailored to your needs.
  • Medication management, to relieve anxiety symptoms and improve functioning.
  • Lifestyle and behavioral strategies, which may also be discussed to help you manage stress and feel more balanced.
  • Brief psychotherapy, which may also be included in your follow-up appointments if we agree it’d be helpful.

Therapy referrals are available if more in-depth, ongoing support could help you build coping tools and reduce symptoms long-term.
