WHAT WE OFFER

Personalized psychiatry for depression treatment

You deserve support that feels human, not clinical. At Peak Mental Healthcare, our psychiatric providers take the time to listen and design a medication plan that fits your goals and needs.

We pair personalized medication management with quick appointment availability, simple billing, and a team that’s here when you need us.

A psychiatric evaluation

We begin with a full picture of your mental health. Your Denver- or Phoenix-based psychiatric nurse practitioner will ask about symptoms, life changes, health history, and what you’re hoping to achieve.

Answers through diagnostic testing

Depression can take many forms — and sometimes its symptoms overlap with anxiety, ADHD, or even bipolar disorder. Our psychiatric team uses expert-guided assessments to better understand what you’re experiencing.

Responsive medication management

We’ll walk you through your medication options and help you feel confident about your prescription. Whether it’s a mood stabilizer, antipsychotic, or another option, we’ll follow up regularly and make adjustments as needed.

Treating the whole you

Sometimes medication is enough. But if your depression is tied to grief, trauma, or big changes, extra support can help. We may use brief psychotherapy during your follow-ups or refer you to therapists for more in-depth care.

MEDICATION FOR DEPRESSION

The depression medications we may prescribe

At Peak Mental Healthcare, your provider will help you explore the options for medication for depression. They’ll ensure you understand how they work and help you choose something that aligns with your symptoms, lifestyle, and preferences.

COMMONLY PRESCRIBED Depression Meds
SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressants
Zoloft (sertraline), Lexapro (escitalopram), Prozac (fluoxetine) – Often the first-line treatment for depression. They can help improve mood, energy, and motivation.
SNRI (serotonin- norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) antidepressants
Cymbalta (duloxetine), Effexor XR (venlafaxine) – These may be used if SSRIs aren’t effective or if physical pain and fatigue are also present.
Atypical antidepressants
Wellbutrin (bupropion), Remeron (mirtazapine), trazodone – Used when SSRIs/SNRIs don’t work or they cause unwanted side effects. Some may be used when appetite or sleep loss are occurring, or if weight gain is desired.

In some cases, a combination of medications is the most effective route. Your psychiatric nurse practitioner will talk you through all options in detail, ensuring you fully understand your choices. Then, your provider will check in regularly, track how you’re feeling, and make adjustments as needed.

FAQs

Common questions about depression

It’s completely normal to have questions about depression, especially when it can feel easier to downplay it or seems hard to put into words. We’re here to help you.

Depression can only improve if you seek treatment. So, if you've been feeling down for more than two weeks and it's affecting your work, relationships, or daily life, it’s time to consider reaching out.

If you’re having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please call 988 for immediate support and then follow up with a provider.

Clinical depression, also called major depressive disorder (MDD), causes symptoms that persist. These symptoms can vary, but they often include:

  • Low mood or sadness
  • Fatigue or lack of energy
  • Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
  • Appetite or weight changes
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Feelings of guilt, hopelessness, or worthlessness
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Muscle aches or joint/chronic pain with no clear cause
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

Depression doesn’t always look the same or follow the same timeline. Below are a few types of depressive disorders that our providers commonly diagnose and treat at Peak Mental Healthcare.

Persistent depressive disorder (PDD)
If you’ve felt low for two years or longer, you may be experiencing persistent depressive disorder. It’s a form of depression that’s chronic and often milder in intensity, but still has real impacts on daily life. It blends traits of long-term major depression and what was once called dysthymia. Common symptoms include:

  • Changes in appetite
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Constant fatigue
  • Low self-esteem
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feeling hopeless or stuck

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
Seasonal affective disorder tends to show up during the darker months — often starting in late fall or winter — and can lift as days grow longer in spring.

Bipolar disorder
While bipolar disorder includes depressive episodes, it’s also marked by periods of elevated mood, energy, or impulsivity.

The depressive side may mirror MDD, but effective treatment requires a different approach, often including mood stabilizers and close psychiatric support.

At Peak Mental Healthcare, depression treatment is centered around a psychiatric evaluation and personalized medication management.

We may prescribe an antidepressant to support mood, energy, sleep, appetite, or a combination of those things. Whether it’s your first time on medication or you’ve tried others in the past, we’ll always have a detailed conversation about your options and what to expect.

While it’s not our core service offering, we also consider whether therapy could help alongside medication. If so, your provider may include brief psychotherapy in your appointments or refer you to a therapist for more in-depth and ongoing work.

However depression shows up for you, we’re here to support you. With the right care, it really can get better, and we’ll help you get there.
