What are the benefits of digital twin technology in teh oil and gas industry

Digital twin technology helps oil and gas companies improve safety, reduce travel, and optimise maintenance pllanning. Virtualplant, goes further by providing a high-resolution view of your actual facility, enabling faster decision-making, safer shutdowns, and reduced Scope 3 emissions.

Virtualplant allows teams to explore offshore facilities remotely, cutting the need for helicopter rips and bed-space offshore. It’s used for maintenance planning, contractor inductions, and hazard identification, helpint operators improve safety and efficiency while reducing costs and emissions.

A traditional digital twin is usually a rendered model based on design drawings, showing the “as designed” version. A visual twin, like virtualplant captures the actual, real-world condition of your facility in high-resolution imagery, so you see exactly what’s on site today.

Yes. Our team has extensive experience scanning FPSOs, offshore platforms, and onshore plants. The platform works seamlessly across both environments.

It depends on your operations. Some clients rescan yearly to keep work packs and inductions up to date, while others rescan only when major upgrades or shutdowns occur.

Yes

Virtualplant connects with enterprise management systems such as SAP, Maximo, and PI, as well as your CMMS, asset registers, and other operational technology platforms.

Most facilities are scanned in just a few days, with your platform ready to use in as little as 10 days after scanning, depending on the size and complexity of your site.

No, our scanning process is designed to be minimally disruptive. In most cases, we can work around your operations or tenants without impacting normal activities.

Yes. Contractors can remotely familiarise themselves with the plant, plan safe access, confirm tools and materials, and reduce time on site during shutdowns.

When combined with Vplanner, detailed and standardised workpacks can be created directly from the model, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and safer execution of shutdown activities.

Absolutely. Virtualplant is often used to familiarise new staff and contractors with a facility before mobilisation, reducing HSE risks and saving training hours.

Yes. By replacing sie visits with remote inspections, virtualplant directly helps reduce helicopetr flights, travel time, and Scope 3 emissions.

Yes. You can take accurate measurements directly from the photographic environment, helping you plan maintenance, refurbishments, and installations without a site visit.

We make every effort to capture as much information as possible during on-site scanning. While some items may occasionally be obstructed or missed, our images are captured in 6k resolution, allowing you to zoom in and clearly view most asset nameplates and tags for easy identification.

For even greater efficiency, virtualplant can be enhanced with our automatic tag recognition add-on, which detects tags and matches them to your existing asset register, streamlining and accelerating your asset management processes.

Typically, users can’t add information directly to virtualplant. However, with Vplanner, an add-on designed for contractors and internal teams, you can create standardised, accurate, and error-free work orders with minimal training.

Yes. You can connect P&IDs, wiring diagrams, manuals, and maintenance schedules to relevant assets within the visual twin.

Virtualplant models are typically organised into modules, rooms, or levels that match the layout of your facility. These spaces are linked through navigation tags, enabling a smooth transition between areas and a seamless virtual walkthrough of your entire site.

Our aerial models can capture and present your entire facility as one complete, navigable environment.

We use enterprise-grade security measures and host your virtualplant platform in the cloud. Access can be controlled via SSO (Single Sign-On) for added protection.
