Successful outcome: Unlawful arrest and stinger deployment

Given the importance of this subject and its relevance to everyone who owns a smartphone, i.e. nearly everyone, the article on S19 PACE should be required reading for everyone! The police indifference to, ignorance about, and abuse of the law requires knowledge to combat it. I say this as a retired police officer. Well written articles clearly laying out peoples rights when they interact with the police. Evidenced by detailed examples of cases where egregious police behaviour has been successfully challenged, but only after legal action.

I have never used the services of this lawyer professionally but often look at his blog. In this case it was when trying to keep abreast of the situation regarding the extreme force used by Sussex police in restraining care home resident Donald Burgess. Court summons sent to wrong address, police turned up approximately 09 30 arrested me transported me to Doncaster police station where I was detained for about 3 hours before appearing in Doncaster crown court, After viewing all CCTV footage the judge decided there was no case to answer and I was released without charge 20 miles from home, prior this i attempted to contact the investigating officer for almost 4 months with no response, I have never been in trouble nor have a conviction of any sort the whole episode was extremely traumatic, I am also registered disabled and had my partner (who works nights) not been at home I don’t know what I would have done thanks so much again lain and Alex for all you did for me. I enjoy reading the blog and am glad that Mr Gould is prepared to step up and grasp the nettle, although I am not so naive as to think it is entirely for altruistic reasons.
As with any large organisation that wields power there are wrong doer’s that need to be held to account as does the organisation itself. No one is above the law, not even the law, as much as they think they are mind you.

I have read all of these blogs over the last couple of years. I am currently involved in a malicious prosecution by Staffordshire Police following a perfectly legal civil claim against my employer. It has been two years of absolute hell and there is no end in sight. Iain Gould and his growing team, bringing Actions Against the Police are undoubtedly one of the best AAP Solicitors in this country. They have represented me on several occasions with a 100% success rate. Claims against the police need specialist Solicitors due to the technicality of the claims and the often ‘money no option’ defence police will put up. Sadly, they do not have the capacity to handle every claim, but with a growing team, I suspect they will be able to help more victims of the police in the future.

This is my honest review reflecting I had a negative experience with Mr Iain Gould.Mr Iain Gould did not make proper reasonable adjustments for my mental health disabilities, he undervalued my settlement, and manipulated me to write a false positive review. I had to lodge a formal complaint because he was not working in my best interest. Whilst Mr Gould refers to the Legal Ombudsman, I must clarify that my complaint remains disputed because the Ombudsman failed to record and apply the reasonable adjustments I requested under the Equality Act 2010. Therefore, Mr Gould’s reliance on the Ombudsman’s dismissal does not change my experience: I believe he undervalued my case, failed to make appropriate adjustments for my disabilities, and placed me under pressure to provide a review that was not genuine. This review reflects my honest and ongoing concerns

I was falsely accused and locked up by police for a crime I did not commit. I was placed on tag pending my court case. Police attended my address and arrested me for breach of curfew� there was no curfew conditions attached to my tag. I showed police my court paperwork proving there was no tag. I was falsely imprisoned overnight and treat appallingly. I searched for a solicitor but found that the solicitors in my area showed little interest in my situation. I then came across Iain on a Google search. This man was incredible from the very start. He replied very quickly to my initial message. I cannot recommend this man highly enough. Criminal behaviour by the police overstepping thier powers is distressing. To read about this happening so often, to me, dictates a lack of training and what is more worse a lack of supervision by their supervisors.
Whislt in the armed forces we hadf multitudes of people of various character. Some of whom were of shoret temper and very quick to fight at the slightest provocation. This though disapeared when out on the streets armed with rifles. Characters changed to one of courteus interactions to the public. You hafd to be there to see and experience the behaviour.
I put all of this down to the extensive training, accountability to the supervisors and knowing that if you dfidf any wrongs you’re mates would pull you up fo it or be reported for your behaviour. You had let the side down.
I can only put the bad police behaviour down to lax discipline, few checks, and an attitude of I can get away with anything that happens.
Poor police controls and what in the forces is called ‘esprit de core’.

I feel pity on those few officers who ddo play by the rules. They are badly let down by the others.
The end result is they are losing all faith by the public.

From my limited observation I think that this problem has grown worse by the recruitment over the past 30 years by taking in their supervisory class direct from university. In my opinion they have no real life experience, which is what the older police had to gain by patrolling the individual bests on foot for a number of years.

Where are they now, police stations closing public desks, polce in cars. None of them on the streets unless in cars, and to make matters worse not responding to incidents because they are too busy.
DOING WHAT.?

I am a retired West Midlands police officer. I have a folder full of letters of thanks from members of the public. I personally saw very little inappropriate behaviour in my 22 years of service. However, due to a Narcissistic psychopath now ex partner i have been dealing with years of Metropolitan Police injustice. I have evidence so compelling its shocking that I can’t get a legal professional to take it on. I have contacted Iain Gould & Aidan Wally but to date had no success. I enjoy reading their blogs but very frustrated that they are not one of mine. My case is currently back with IOPC & CCRC for a 2nd time after more compelling evidence emerged from independent witnesses, freedom of information & disclosure inadvertently released. They show in no uncertain terms, how corrupt, incompetent and have no empathy.
The police are out there! They can’t be bargained with. They can’t be reasoned with. They don’t feel pity, or remorse, but are brainwashed to fear everyone and everything. And they absolutely will not stop… ever, until you are dead!

Malpractise by legal officers, police and also members of judiciary and their staff, does need to be addressed, and not shoved under the carpet. But I think lots of lawyers have their finger in the pie so play the same game and it is good to have one who will actually stand up for the little man. Please do not change.

What a waste of time. Iain Gould says he will contact you back and then doesn’t and has to be chased up, multiple times, then constantly talks about how going to other solicitors being a waste of time whenever you point out how that isn’t acceptable, despite having not brought other solicitors up when expressing disappointment in his failure to do as he says. Very strange. He is incredibly unprofessional and full of nonsense, saying ridiculous things such as the police being under no obligation to inform me that they are recording me despite there being laws about institutions holding information on people and informing them about it (he says that it’s equivalent to me not telling them that I am recording them… shocking). He also ignored a blatant malicious prosecution attempt following an arrest because the arrest “may” have been lawful. I honestly wondered if this man had the memory of a goldfish, and he clearly couldn’t wait to end to call, hanging up on me mid-sentence. He says he’s been doing this for over 30 years but his qualifications aren’t worth the paper they are written on. Stay away.

I have followed Ian Gould for a few years. The actions he takes to prevent injustice is remarkable. It is just a pity that the police make so many mistakes, most of them seem to be the lack of knowledge of the police officers themselves. I am surprised that the great majority seem to lack adequate training. Is this done by design of the police themselves, it seems to be the case. I follow Ian’s posts and find them informative and dare I say it – refreshing! Refreshing in that there is someone out there who will challenge and the police to account when they get it wrong and are not prepared to admit it. Policing is a difficult and challenging job and officers cannot get it right every time, but when they get it wrong they should admit it and learn from it instead of trying to defend the indefensible.

After being assaulted by two security guards inside a Sainsbury’s store in 2023, I was totally let down by the Met police who utterly failed to follow the law and blamed me for the event. I then tried to find a solicitor to act on my behalf but most refused on the basis that the police had already decided not to take action. I just want to start this review off by saying thank you to Iain. He is so good at what he does and he really cares. I am really happy that he represented me. I was arrested and unlawfully detained over something I didn’t do. I was assaulted and taking advantage of by a police officer abusing his power. I was very cooperative and still he had it out for me still to this day. I can’t believe it happened, but God put Ian in my path and he made things really smooth and he made me feel better by proving and going after the officer who done this to me at first I was a little scared at how things would play out because I didn’t believe they believed Victims. I thought people took sides, but the court system is different when you have a loyal, honest attorney who cares as is by your side and Who, who wants Justice for you , I just want to thank Iain again and again for fighting for me. He’s made my life a whole lot smoother. I feel a lot better. I still have PTSD over the situation but he got me results to make things a little better. He is an amazing person. He’s very honest real and respectful and he really cares for his clients. It’s not just a paycheck for him like some attorneys, he will go the extra mile for you. I would recommend anyone in any situation to Iain Gould . but thanks to iain I can sleep a little bit better at night, knowing I have some justice. please if you are in any type of situation where you’ve been maliciously, prosecuted, falsely arrest, arrested, and lied upon by any police please do not hesitate to get iain on your side. Just reading the blogs from Mr Gould, and knowing that there is, if needed, someone to help people get justice when corrupt police overstep the law, as a lot of us know the IPPC is totally corrupt. Tony.

Iain is a great solicitor, he will assist you to the best of his abilities, and has no fear of taking on cases against the Police or government contractors. Iain Gould and his colleague John Hagan are probably amongst the best AAP solicitors in the UK. Their attention to detail in their work is what makes them stand out. I have had the unfortunately need to sue the police on several occasions and through Iain Gould and John Hagan and DPP law, I have been compensated almost £50,000 from a single police force (Lancashire), with another two live claim with them in progress (Lancashire and GMP), and another two under consideration.

I have had communications with Iain about a legal matter. I can honestly say that he was knowledgeable ,helpful,kind and professional. He responded to my emails promptly,despite me not actually being a paying client. I will always be grateful for his kindness.

I have on occasions been stopped by police officers who apparently had nothing better to do than intimidate a member of the public. I had the police unlawfully arrest me, Mr Gould took on my case on a no win no fee basis and the complaint was false imprisonment and assault and battery. He did all the dealing with the police for me and kept me informed at every turn, he actually got me double what they offered and way more that what I expected. Even when I would have accepted, he explained I could get more for x reason and he was bang on. I couldn’t have asked for more in my solicitor and would 100% use Mr Gould again in future. Surely the best solicitor in England for dealing with the police. It is unfortunate that we live in a society where those who should be the most trusted servants of the state have become the most distrusted, despised and corrupt. I find Iain Gould’s blog incredibly insightful. Abuse of power by police is frighteningly common; be it targeting people of colour, youths, women, etc. Thank you Mr Gould for sharing your knowledge and helping to protect the public from these police officers. Iain Gould has been and remains the backbone of my resilience to and education about the police. His blog offers a fascinating and sometimes gruesome insight to the reality of policing in the UK. As they say, ‘theory stops on the doorstep of actual’ and Iain’s blogs have enlightened me with regard to the actuality of policing in this country; it’s a long way from the fluffy theory one reads in parliamentary acts and the codes which are supposed to govern their behaviour, ethics and morality. Make no mistake, their are some ‘scented hankies’ out there but what good are they in the ‘ocean of excrement’ that is the present reality of today’s police ‘service’ where so many innocent and deserving of better members of the public are abused, ignored and denied. I would not hesitate to make Mr Gould my first port of call should I need him. Nothing beats experience and a verified record of success.

I was unfairly targeted and assaulted by Greater Manchester Police whilst walking to the tram station after a Manchester Derby. The assault was recorded numerous phones. The police eventually had to take me to hospital to treat the injuries that they had caused. I contacted Iain and supplied him with the video evidence and he pursued my case with the utmost professionalism eventually resulting in GMP holding their hands up and paying me £10,000. In an ideal world, every police officer would behave impeccably, and we would never have cause for concern. But, sadly, that is not the case; while I am sure that some officers do uphold the highest of standards, others do not.

So, what do you do when it all goes wrong and you need someone to take the police on? To date I have never had to do that, but I have for some years followed Iain Gould’s blog and received his emails recounting some of the serious cases he has fought and won. It’s fascinating stuff and what I do know is that if ever I needed a legal expert to have my back where bad policing has occurred, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Iain Gould.

I look forward to receiving Ian’s blog posts in my Inbox. He is an excellent writer who explains the law, in relation to policing, so that I can not only enjoy his articles but also learn from them. The first time I came across Iain (DPP Law) was in an online news article. The article was reporting on a case that he had won against a very large police force. At the time I was struggling with another legal firm, who were representing me. I had taken legal action against my local police force, but my case was not progressing as I would have hoped. A family member had shared the article with me, so I searched the internet for Iain’s details, and made contact with him. Cleveland Police disgraceful actions: I booked into a hotel with my 7 year old. 7.20am police for no reason forced there way in and dragged me out in front of my son, the worst day of my life. I was assaulted, stripped naked by a female officer, tortured me kneeling on my neck. I could not find any company other that DPP Law that would take the police to task. Iain Gould stood up to the task and followed through with great delicacy considering the trauma it caused me. Mr Gould a highly professional solicitor managed to get me and my son a resolution that was just. He acted brilliantly throughout the time and kept me up to date even when I was being a pain. He explained everything and was patient with me. I am very glad we met and I used his services or I would not of got the outcome he achieved with his team. Where do I even start? Wow. Iain is simply just AMAZING, he is truly God sent. I was wrongfully arrested in November 2019 by Essex police (mistaken identity). I googled solicitors specialised in illegal, mistaken identity arrests and came across Iain’s firm despite me living in London and him on Liverpool, he took my case and made sure he saw it to the very end. He was able to help me win a huge settlement for that case. Iain Gould is second to none! An officer from Hampshire Police found my mobile phone after detaining me and Snapped it in half.
