FAQs

Here are answers to common questions about planning your shoot, what to expect on the day, and what happens afterwards.

Planning Your Shoot

I’m based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and work across Greater Sydney, regional NSW, throughout Australia, and internationally. Most shoots take place on location, so I can come to your office, workplace, or another suitable setting.

No. Most shoots take place on location, and I bring the lighting and equipment needed to create a professional setup at your office, workplace, or another suitable setting. For individuals, I also have a private studio in Bellevue Hill if that is more convenient.

Not always, but both can be very helpful. A mood board communicates the visual direction, while a shot list ensures we cover the key images and any requirements such as orientation, aspect ratio, or space for text. For larger corporate shoots or commercial shoots, I recommend preparing both.

Yes. Share your brand guidelines or examples of the existing photography, and I can match the lighting, background, composition, and cropping so the new images fit naturally with your current library. This is particularly useful when photographing new team members or working across multiple offices.

We can use a clean studio backdrop, your office or workplace, a carefully chosen interior, or an outdoor location. The best option depends on your brand, how the images will be used, and whether you need consistency across a team or greater variety for marketing. I’ll help you choose a setting that suits both the people and the purpose of the shoot.

Yes. I can arrange a professional hair and makeup artist for your shoot. Full styling generally requires at least 45 minutes per person, while a lighter touch-up service can work well for larger groups or tighter schedules. Even without an artist, I bring a small kit for shine, flyaway hair, lint, and other last-minute adjustments.

On the Day

That’s completely normal. Most people I photograph feel uncomfortable at first, so I provide clear, gentle direction and keep the session relaxed. Good lighting, thoughtful posing, and small adjustments make a far greater difference than being naturally “photogenic”. The aim is to create images that feel like you and that you are confident using.

No. A smile can create a warm, approachable image, but it is not the only option. Some people and roles suit a more serious, thoughtful, or authoritative expression. I’ll guide you through several variations so nothing feels forced and you can choose what feels right.

Choose clothing that reflects your role, audience, and brand. Simple, well-fitting pieces and solid colours usually photograph well, while busy patterns and large logos can be distracting. For professional headshots, consistent guidance on colour and formality helps a team look cohesive. For personal branding photography, bring a couple of options so we can create more variety and choose what works best on camera.

It depends on the type and scope of the shoot. A straightforward team headshot usually takes around three to five minutes per person, while executive portraits and personal branding sessions allow more time for different settings, clothing, and expressions. Corporate and commercial shoot timings are planned around the shot list, locations, and number of people involved.

Yes. Many corporate and commercial shoots work best in an active workplace because the images feel natural and relevant to the business. I work efficiently and minimise disruption, but it helps to tidy the areas being photographed, remove sensitive information, and let staff know when and where the shoot will take place.

A new look involves a meaningful change to the image, such as different clothing, background, location, lighting, or styling. Small adjustments, including removing a jacket, changing your expression, or moving from a close headshot to a wider portrait, would not normally count as a separate look.

Images, Retouching and Delivery

You’ll receive a link to a private online gallery where you can view, share, and download the images. Files are supplied in high-resolution and web-optimised formats, and any retouched versions are added to the same gallery.

Proof images are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the type of shoot. Retouched images are generally supplied within 48 hours of receiving your selections. Let me know about any urgent deadline in advance and I can usually accommodate it.

Yes. Some packages include a set number of retouched images, while for others retouching can be added as required. The approach is subtle and natural, with the aim of helping people and workplaces look their best without appearing heavily altered.

Retouching can include removing blemishes and skin shine, tidying flyaway hair and clothing, reducing signs of tiredness, and gently brightening teeth and eyes. For workplace images, I can also remove distractions such as cables, signs, or unwanted objects. Just let me know if you have specific requirements.

You can review the full shoot in your online gallery and select your preferred images there. The gallery can also be shared with colleagues or other stakeholders, making it easy to gather feedback and confirm the final choices.

I retain the copyright, while your business receives a broad, ongoing licence to use the images for its website, social media, marketing, advertising, PR, and other business communications. There are no recurring licence fees or expiry dates for those agreed uses.

Pricing and Choosing the Right Service

Pricing depends on the type, scale, and location of the shoot. Individual personal branding sessions start at $295, while on-location corporate and commercial photography starts from $950, and team headshots from $1,100. The relevant service page includes current starting prices, and I’ll provide a tailored quote once I understand what you need.

Choose professional headshots if you need consistent profile images for an individual or team. Corporate photography covers people at work and broader business imagery. Personal branding photography provides an individual with a more varied image library, while commercial photography is suited to larger marketing and campaign projects. If you’re unsure, tell me how the images will be used and I’ll point you in the right direction.

A headshot is usually a tighter image focused on someone’s face and expression, commonly used for LinkedIn, company profiles, email signatures, and staff directories. A portrait can show more of the person and their surroundings, providing greater context about their role, personality, or business. The terms overlap, so the intended use matters more than the label.

Usually, yes. An executive headshot is generally a clean profile image for LinkedIn, company biographies, and media use. An executive portrait is often broader and more considered, showing the leader in an office, boardroom, workplace, or another setting connected to the organisation. A shoot can include both.

Personal branding photography is a good fit for business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, leaders, and others who are visible in their field and need more than a single profile image. It creates a varied set of portraits for websites, social media, speaking engagements, PR, and marketing, tailored to how you want to be represented.

Yes. Conferences, off-sites, launches, and company events can be an efficient opportunity to photograph a large number of people. I can set up a mobile headshot studio on site and work to a schedule that keeps people moving while maintaining a consistent result. Event coverage can also be included if required.
