PROBLEM-FREE CONCRETE WATERPROOFING
Waterproofing for above ground, exposed concrete and water tanks
CWS100 constitutes cutting edge concrete waterproofing technology, for large areas of exposed concrete, as well as projects where the concrete is exposed to mechanical abrasion or high thermal stress. CWS100 is the ideal product for rooftop waterproofing. Rooftops, carparks, podiums and bridge decks or wharfs, shopping centers, as well as swimming pools and systems of collection, storage, and treatment wastewater or drinking water.
CWS100 comes with 25 years of manufacturer’s warranty, ensuring peace of mind, problem-free waterproofing and concrete protection, for the full service life of a project.
Ultimate waterproofing and protection of concrete and steel reinforcement. CWS100 forms a barrier inside the concrete that waterproofs and protects the concrete for the lifetime of the construction.
The proprietary chemicals included in the formula of CWS100, react with calcium within the matrix and form an insoluble CSH gel, that fully seals the porosity and capillaries of the structure, rendering it impermeable to water ingress.
WHAT IT IS – HOW IT WORKS
Spray-applied on cured concrete, this unique liquid CSH agent – practically “liquid concrete within concrete” – penetrates in the matrix and forms a fully integrated water-barrier, around 15-20mm under the surface, sealing existing static cracks up to 2.2mm (yes, now it is possible!), effectively blocking the ingress of water soluble chlorides, sulphates and other contaminants, that are responsible for corrosion of the steel reinforcement. CWS100 is a deep penetrating agent, suitable for cured structural concrete which has been properly vibrated and compacted, with a strength of at least 20MPa.
CWS100 remains active in the concrete matrix and – subject to mix design – will reactivate again to seal future hairline cracks, upon contact with water.
When used in projects where high hydrostatic pressure conditions are present, CWS100 offers superb performance and protection, as it has been successfully tested to 1.8MPa (18bars of 180m of waterhead) of hydrostatic pressure.
CWS100 is equally well applied on both vertical and horizontal surfaces, so not only rooftops, podiums, carparks and bridge decks, but also facades, vertical walls, water tanks, planter boxes etc.
UNPARALLELED CRACK SEALING
The market today is full of concrete sealers and products claiming to “seal cracks in the concrete”. These claims though are not substantiated by independent testing from accredited testing facilities. Only CWS100 has testing reports – available on request -to prove its ability for real static crack sealing up to 2.2mm.
SUPER-FAST APPLICATION
Whereas traditional membranes are applied at a typical daily rate of about 60-70m2, by one applicator and one assistant, necessarily covered by a protective screed (at 50m2/applicator), CWS100 can easily be applied on 800-1000m2/day by one single applicator, using a normal backpack sprayer, or up to 6,000m2/day per day with a motorized pump. All done by one single applicator!
This incredible leap in productivity, dramatically reduces project time and labor cost.
Example: 10,000m² site
CWS100: 10 man-days
Membrane & screed: 300 man-days
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY – EARNING LEED POINTS
All the advantages mentioned above are useless, if CWS100 cannot respect the environment and the ecosystems around the projects it is applied on.
As a member of the US Green Building council (USGBC), responsible for the LEED program, CWS advocates for the protection of the environment, incorporating specific characteristics into our products:
- 0% VOCs
- 100% Non-toxic
- 100% safe for use with drinking water (NSF/ANSI/61-CAN certified)
- 100% recyclable concrete
- No need for landfill disposal
- May earn points on green building accreditation schemes (LEED, BREEAM etc.)
CONCRETE PROTECTION
Chemical attack
Not only is CWS100 ideal for waterproofing concrete, it goes beyond this, to protect projects such as carparks, bridge decks, wharfs and other marine structures from degradation.
Acting as a sub-surface waterproof barrier, CWS100 seals cracks in the concrete, that would otherwise be a point of entry for harmful contaminants (chlorides, sulphates etc.) that are responsible for the initiation of corrosion on the steel reinforcement and the degradation of the concrete itself.
Concrete hardness increase – abrasion protection
CWS100 makes the concrete harder than granite. It increases the hardness of concrete to Grade 9 of the Mohs scale (Corundum level) just below the level of diamond (Grade 10), the hardest material on the planet. Granite is significantly less hard, at only 6-7 of the Mohs scale. This property is valuable for the protection of concrete in conditions of high rolling loads, traffic and abrasion, such as car parks, wharfs, warehouses and loading areas, bridge decks and podiums.
TRAFFICABLE IN 6 HOURS
Adding to the advantage of super-fast application, CWS100 treated surfaces are fully trafficable within six hours after the spray application.
This is very beneficial for projects which are already in operation (e.g. car parks, warehouses, loading areas etc.), where the re-waterproofing of an existing project can be done, without suspending the activity, which would otherwise result in loss of income.
CWS100 – IMPOSSIBLE TO DAMAGE
One of the reasons why traditional membranes fail and leak is that they get damaged by people walking, or placing and dragging objects on them. More often than not, subsequent trades working on the membrane-treated areas are the primary source of this damage.
CWS100 is impossible to damage on site, as it is below the surface of concrete, and cannot be damaged by walking or traffic, or by accidentally dropping tools on it.
Impervious to UV radiation and root penetration, it offers very serious cost reduction and simplification of the total waterproofing process.
CWS100 cannot be damaged on-site. A membrane would fail

CWS100® Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
CWS100™ penetrates between 10-20mm deep, depending on the MPa of the concrete.
- CWS100® offers lifelong waterproofing.
- It seals non-volatile cracks in the concrete up to 2.2mm and, when used with suitable concrete mixes, it will remain reactive in the concrete to seal future hairline cracks in the presence of water.
- It protects concrete by prevention of chloride ingress and harmful chemicals, which attack the reinforcement and cause degradation of the structure.
- CWS100® hardens concrete to Grade 9 on Mohs’ Scale – which is harder than granite, which is only a 6 or 7.
- It means that there is no need to use a protective screed over the structural concrete.
CWS100™ is arguably the world’s most environmentally friendly concrete waterproofing. CWS has been granted admission to the prestigious US Green Building Council (USGBC), gaining points for ratings systems such as LEED, BREEAM, ESTIDAMA PEARLS and GREEN MARK.
Contractors are always delighted to use CWS100™ for the following reasons:
- Speed of application – CWS100™ can be applied super-fast fast compared to traditional membranes. One person can apply about 6000m2 per day compared to under 100m2 for a
- Once applied CWS100™ cannot be damaged by other trades on
- No screed required. CWS100™ is directly applied onto the structural slab. No screed is required.
- CWS100 is suitable for either horizontal or vertical surfaces, saving time and
- It is trafficable within 4-6 hours of application.
CWS100™ must be applied above 5°C to ensure there is no moisture frozen inside the concrete in order to react with free calcium and water.
In temperatures above 40°C, CWS100™ will encounter evaporation prior to soaking into the concrete, resulting in product wastage. Seek information from CWS for application above 40°C.
Once CWS100™ has been properly applied, temperature becomes irrelevant making the structure suitable for sub-zero or high-heat conditions.
CWS100™ will waterproof all cementitious concretes, including screeds (topping slabs). Whilst CWS100™ will waterproof the actual topping, if the topping breaks up CWS100™ may not be able to overcome the basic weakness of the screed and permanently waterproof it.
The CWS100™ system will be no more useful than a typical sodium silicate. Due to lack of water, the matrix and/or cracks present will not be sealed as the product requires water for sufficient chemical reaction.
When the surface is visually dry, i.e. no visual wet or damp spots. However, the drier the better. We want the surface to be dry so CWS100™ is absorbed by capillary action. If unsure, use a moisture tester.
No, crystal growth produces rigid crystals. CWS100™ forms a gel inside the concrete and cracks, remaining dormant to seal future cracks in the presence of water. Whereas crystals are rigid, the gel produced by CWS100 has flexibility.
It depends on the exact nature of the crack. Whilst CWS100™ will seal some volatile or working cracks we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. In such cases the use of an ancillary product is recommended.
Normally where other sealers have been used, they will block penetration of CWS100™ into the slab. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the existing sealer in order to achieve penetration.
CWS100™ should be used in conjunction with an appropriate hydrophilic waterstop or other approved technology. Because these areas are prone to honeycombing or voids in the concrete, they may be too great for CWS100™ alone to fill completely.
If a crack continues to leak after CWS100™ application, it is practically easy to fix. Generally, the best process is to tape the underside of large cracks. Apply further product, specifically on the crack. Flood the crack with lots of water and generally it will create a watertight seal. Should this not occur, refer to your local distributor for further advice.
Yes, but quite often the release agents used by pre-cast manufacturers can block penetration of the product into the concrete. Therefore, any form agents must be removed prior to application. If in doubt perform a trial application.
In general, usage will be around 1 litre to 5m2 however this will vary according to the Mpa and finish of the concrete. Basically, the concrete will refuse to accept any further product once it has received the full amount that will soak into it. This may vary from 1 litre to 4m² through to 1 litre to 6m² according to the Mpa and finish of the concrete.
There is no known shelf life to CWS100™ providing the lid of the container is sealed and it is kept out of direct sunlight. Be aware that solids in the product can settle to the base of the drums over time so it is important that the product is well mixed prior to use.
Crystal growth products are preferred in these cases, as crystals will migrate to the positive side.
You may have to use an air blower to speed the drying process. A breathing apparatus is essential with certain enclosed applications.
Normally we would suggest waiting 28 days prior to application of CWS100™. In certain circumstances it may be possible to apply it earlier however, should this be the case, please contact CWS for details.
Yes, it increases bonding by 27%.
CWS100™ will deter fungal growth. Where there is growth, for example in damp areas, removal is extremely easy as the spores cannot penetrate the concrete matrix.
It is essential that the product is slowly warmed to around 5-6°C. Stir thoroughly and apply as specified. It will not have any effect on product performance.
No, CWS100™ comprises a breathing system which allows for moisture to escape whilst preventing the ingress of water and pollutants.
There are many sodium silicates on the market around the world. Some of these claim to have crack sealing ability but normally this is only the faintest of hairline cracks. If any other product claims to be able to seal cracks, ask to see a scientific test performed by a 3rd party to confirm such crack sealing ability.
Calcium can be re-instated by mixing CWS Accelerator with water and applying it to concrete. Consult CWS for details.
CWS100™ largely prevents AAR/ASR by preventing water infiltration which is critical for its reaction.
A low-pressure sprayer such as a backpack sprayer for small projects or a motorised pump for larger projects.
Yes. There are many different types and their usage varies. They typically last 10-15 years whereas CWS100™ delivers lifetime waterproofing. Occasionally CWS100™ will also compete against crystalline products. However, crystalline products should not be used on areas exposed to thermal stress because the crystals break when they expand and contract. By comparison, CWS100™ can withstand thermal stress and is perfectly suitable for such areas.
The performance of concrete will lose strength at 300°C even if it has been applied with CWS100™.
The first watering must be done within six hours of application. Note it is extremely important that it is done within the six-hour period. The first watering is crucial although the second and third watering can be done any time. It will take about one daily watering session over a three-day period to achieve optimum results.
The more water the better.
It can be used on all cementitious concretes. (OPC, PPC Ash-free blends, Type C ash blends, and Slag blends). In general, mixes containing silica fume should be limited to 8% cement replacement. Prior to using CWS100™ on mixes with fly ash, silica fume or volcanic ash please consult CWS for details.
Water curing is preferred. If curing agents are used, it will require water/grit blast removal in order for CWS100™ to penetrate the concrete.
CWS100™ is resistant to most chemicals however the degree of protection will depend on the specific chemical involved. If in doubt refer to CWS for further details.
CWS100™ creates a gel barrier in the concrete up to 20mm deep, protecting both the concrete and the reinforcement from deterioration.
No, on the contrary, the high pH of CWS100™ assists the passive layer in the concrete, preventing rust. CWS100™ in itself can reinstate alkalinity into concretes.
CWS100™ is a water activated product therefore water-based paints or water-based acrylic membranes should be avoided. Alkyd line-marking paint is not recommended. Cementitious or spirit based paints are suitable. In the case of car parks, perhaps the best approach is to do the line marking prior to CWS100 application.
CWS100™ is not suitable for aluminium, glass or glass glazed tiles. Be sure overspray does not make contact with the preceding materials.
All concrete products will adhere to CWS100™ treated concrete. CWS100™ increases the bond between concrete and other cementitious materials.
Should rain fall on wet CWS100™, re-treatment will be required once the concrete has dried. It is critical that CWS100™ absorbs into the concrete before rain has the chance to wash it away.
Yes. This is known as our SYSTEM APPROACH to ensure the entire requirements for a leak-free project have been thought out and delivered.
Yes, CWS100™ is compatible with not only CWSAdmix but other crystal growth (crystalline) products.
CWS100™ cannot be applied to damp or wet concrete. CWSAdmix™ is better suited in such cases. CWS100™ should not be applied on any concrete surfaces where the concrete and/or cracks have been contaminated with water repellent materials. Additionally, if the concrete is very dirty, it needs to be cleaned prior to CWS100 application.
In the short term it may be possible to see where CWS100™ has been applied but in the long term there is no change or discolouration to the concrete.
Such materials are unable to penetrate into CWS100™ treated concrete as it only allows the penetration of water, resulting in no effect on product performance.
Most normal sealers, such as silanes or sodium silicates sealers will not seal cracks in the concrete. CWS100™ addresses existing and future cracks by penetrating into concrete and remaining dormant in case of future cracks.
