Dental check-up and teeth cleaning in Chiang Mai
A professional cleaning removes the hardened tartar and stains that brushing cannot. At Kitcha Dental Clinic, a dentist checks your teeth and gums, then cleans them with scaling and polishing, Airflow or Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT).

Why a professional cleaning matters
- It removes tartar, the hardened plaque that brushing and flossing cannot remove.
- It helps prevent gum disease, which can lead to bone loss around the teeth.
- It removes surface stains from coffee, tea and smoking.
- Your dentist can spot problems early, such as decay or a broken filling, while they are simpler to treat.
Most people have a check-up and cleaning about every six months; your dentist may suggest a different interval for your gums.
Your options

Scaling and polishing
Tartar is removed with ultrasonic and hand instruments, and the teeth are polished.
Airflow cleaning
A fine spray of powder, air and water removes plaque and stains, including from small areas that are hard to reach.
Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)
A step-by-step cleaning that first colors the plaque so it can be seen, then removes it with Airflow and fine instruments.
Your dentist suggests the method that suits your teeth and gums at the check-up.

What happens at your visit

Check-up
Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and fillings, and takes X-rays if they are needed.
Cleaning
Tartar, plaque and stains are removed with the method your dentist recommends, and the teeth are polished.
Advice and next steps
Your dentist shows you any areas to brush or floss more carefully and explains any treatment you may need, such as fillings or gum treatment.
When you need a deeper cleaning
If there is tartar under the gums or signs of gum disease, a routine cleaning is not enough. Scaling and root planing cleans below the gum line, usually over more than one visit, and is planned with our gum dentists.
Cost of a check-up and cleaning
The check-up fee and the cleaning fee are listed on our prices page. The cleaning fee depends on the amount of tartar and the method used. X-rays are charged separately, only if you need them.
Prices on our prices page are shown as ranges. Your final fee depends on what the examination finds, and may include additional items — such as a rubber dam or special materials — when your treatment needs them. Your dentist explains these before treatment.
Teeth cleaning FAQs
How often should I have my teeth cleaned?
Most people have a check-up and cleaning about every six months. If you have gum disease or build up tartar quickly, your dentist may suggest more frequent visits.
Does teeth cleaning hurt?
Most people feel only vibration and some sensitivity. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, tell your dentist; the area can be numbed, and Airflow uses a spray instead of scraping on the tooth surface.
What is the difference between a cleaning and deep scaling?
A routine cleaning removes plaque and tartar above the gums. Deep scaling, also called scaling and root planing, cleans tartar under the gums to treat gum disease, and is usually done over more than one visit.
Can a cleaning help with bad breath?
It can help when bad breath comes from plaque, tartar or food trapped between the teeth. If it comes from decay or gum disease, your dentist explains the treatment needed; some causes are not in the mouth at all.
Will cleaning make my teeth whiter?
Cleaning removes surface stains, so teeth often look brighter, but it does not change the natural color of the tooth. For a lighter shade, ask about whitening.
How much does a check-up and cleaning cost?
The check-up fee and the cleaning fee are listed on our prices page. The cleaning fee depends on the amount of tartar and the method used. X-rays are charged separately, only if you need them.
